Thailand Approves Pfizer Vaccine for Children Under 5 Years Old

The Secretary-General of Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Dr. Paisan Dangkum announced on Wednesday, Aug. 24, the approval of Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine for children aged six months to less than five years old. In a press release, the FDA said the Pfizer vaccine is 80.3% effective at warding off the COVID-19 virus.

A 3-microgram dose will be injected to the child on the first inoculation. The second dose will be injected two weeks after the first shot, while the third will come eight weeks after the second. Those interested to get their children jabbed with the Pfizer vaccine may go directly to the nearest health center.

As of Aug. 26, nearly 142 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Thailand. The top five vaccines are Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Sinovac. Since the pandemic started in 2020, Thailand has logged 4,643,012 COVID-19 cases with 32,169 deaths to date.
