Bangkok Design Week 2023 to Be Held in Nine Districts From Feb. 4-12

This year's Bangkok Design Week (BKKDW), organised by the Creative Economy Agency (CEA), is happening next week from Feb. 4-12.

BKKDW was established in August 2018 by the CEA, then the Thailand Creative and Designer Center, to promote the country's entrepreneurs and advance the creative economy. It is regarded as the biggest design festival in Southeast Asia.

BKKDW, now on its sixth edition, will run under the theme "urban'NICE'zation'" with six aspects, namely environment, mobility, culture, business, community, and diversity.

The creative and design festival seeks to "serve as the intellectual playground for creative people to demonstrate creative ideas in 'making cities better...'" Thus, everybody is enjoined to take part in the festival's dialogues on reimagining Bangkok's possibilities to become an "urban nice city."

In a press release on Jan. 23, CEA Director Dr. Chakrit Pichyankur shared that this year's BKKDW shall benefit the creative economy's ecosystem through creating opportunities and revenue. He also said that creative economy districts can be "high-growth neighbourhoods," adding that even amid the pandemic, emerging communities like Talat Noi along Charoen Krung Road was able to hold festivals that attracted visitors and created economic value.

He expressed positivity that BKKDW this year would be another successful edition and can contribute in "[raising] the economy and [creating] a model for Bangkok's development."

BKKDW will feature talks, workshops, a creative market, live music, film screenings, and exhibitions. It will be held in nine districts, including Charoen Krung -Talad Noi, Yaowarat, Samyan - Siam, Ari - Pradipat, Phra Nakhon / Pak Khlong Talat /Nang Loeng, Wongwian Yai - Talat Phlu / Khlong San, Bang Pho, Phrom Phong, Kaset, and other districts via four online and offline events.
