Env't Dep’t Launches Air Quality Map to Check Real-time Pollution in BKK

In view of the recent unhealthy air quality in Bangkok, Lat Krabang District Councilor Dr. John Surachit Phongsingvithaya advised the public to check the air quality before going outside through its new online map. The Bangkok Air Quality and Noise Management Division's website provides a real-time situation report where citizens can monitor the dust value in their respective districts.

If the dust value is higher than the recommended pollutant level of particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5), then it is best to remain indoors and avoid outdoor activities.

In a press release from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Data Center on Feb. 1, Dr. Phongsingvithaya mentioned that the increasing atmospheric aerosols in the city have a direct impact on one’s health. He also urged schools to cancel any outdoor activities and required the public to wear N95 or hygienic masks.

Based on the 24-hour historical average of the management division, the roadsides of Yannawa District, Prawet District, Thaweewattana District, and Bang Khun Thian District (Khor Por Station), as well as the general area of Bueng Kum District have the highest levels of dust pollution with air quality categorized as “affect health,” as of today, 9 AM local time. This indicates that the air quality index is greater than 201 air pollutants, which can affect a person's lungs and has been associated with cardiac and respiratory illnesses, including cancer.
