Public Health Ministry Reminds F&B Vendors to Declare Cannabis Use

Ministry of Public Health Spokesman Dr. Rungruang Kitpati has reminded food and beverage (F&B) vendors that they’re required by law to inform customers if they use cannabis in their products. This is so both locals and foreigners are aware of the ingredients they’re about to consume and can make informed decisions.

The reminder came after concerns were raised regarding the decriminalisation of cannabis for medical, health, and economic benefits, as this might cause people to consume cannabis unintentionally.

F&B vendors must have the following written information for customers: a warning for customers that their products have cannabis content, a clear indication to identify which products have cannabis leaf content, and a display of the amount of cannabis used in each product. A warning against cannabis consumption for children and those aged below 18, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and people who are sensitive to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) must also be included.

To sell and serve cannabis-infused food or drinks, F&Bs must only put less than 0.2% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) by weight in their products. Anything higher than that is illegal.

“The cannabis edibles may not [be] for everyone. Consuming too much of the weed can make you sick,” Department of Health Chief Dr. Suwannachai Wattanayingchoroenchai said.
