Thai Gov't Aims to Fast-Track Development of 5G Technology

The two-day "Thailand 5G Summit 2022" was launched on Thursday, June 16, at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld to help fast-track the development of 5G Technology.
The event was organised by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES), as well as private sector partners Huawei Technology (Thailand) and Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA).
Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Prayuth Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony of the event with a keynote speech titled "The 5G Leader in the Region."
Chan-o-cha said that the Thai government has commissioned the DES to frame the policy of developing a plan to promote the country's use of 5G technology and further develop it, as per a press release by the DES on June 16.
"The 5G application drive will respond to the era of digital transformation, create opportunities for revenue generation, and create many new businesses, with one of the key leverages looking at the community level to develop community e-commerce to become a national e-marketplace in the future, along with connecting opportunities to create community logistics," the prime minister said.
Digital Minister Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, on the other hand, said that "5G technology is the infrastructure that will transform the country's economy in the future."
"[T]he Ministry of Digital Affairs aims to create a digital industry ecosystem from 5G technology, encouraging digital applications to grow business for Thai entrepreneurs by encouraging the 5G Technology Alliance network to be a key driver to increase the utilization of 5G and increase the number of 5G users from now on, main utilization will be in the manufacturing, medical and public health industries and smart cities," Thanakmanusorn said.
The second day of the summit is a hybrid event that includes exhibitions, media and analyst activities, forums, and executive meetings.
