Thailand’s Exports, Tourism Industry Recover in Q1 2022

Thailand's economy showed 2.2% growth from January to March, thanks to the easing of pandemic restrictions that revived the kingdom's export sector and tourism industry.

The second largest economy in Southeast Asia shrank during the pandemic. It was linked to the tourism sector with an estimated 40 million annual losses. As Thailand reopened its borders and implemented more relaxed restrictions for tourists, the export sector and tourism industry recovered according to National Economic and Social Development Council secretary general Danucha Pichayanan on May 17.

The national economic planning agency said the Thai economy rebounded to 2.2% in the first quarter versus the 1.1% during the same period last year.
