Cosy Cafés to Check Out in Sukhumvit if You Need Some Peace and Quiet

The long road of Sukhumvit Road encapsulates the commercial side of Bangkok. Bustling bars for the night owls run aplenty, while shopping malls and swanky international hotels are a stone’s throw away from each other, luring in expats and tourists alike. For outsiders, it’s easy to dismiss this iconic road as just another commodified area in Bangkok, one with a dearth of quiet spots minus the city’s bustle. If you think it’s hard to find a cosy space in this busy side of Bangkok, this list is for you. We found five cafés along Sukhumvit Road where you can chill, people-watch, and enjoy your beverage while taking a break from mall-hopping.

Kaizen Coffee

This two-storey shop offers an extensive menu of coffee drinks that will satisfy your caffeine addiction. They have classic, dark, and decaf, as well as black single origin. You can customise your java by adding soy, almond, oat, or extra syrup. If the choices overwhelm you, just ask their friendly barista for their recommended cup. You can chill in the semi-al fresco area or find a quiet spot in the indoor seating area while watching the busy baristas.

Kaizen is proud of their imported beans, but their food selection is also a must-try. We recommend their Home Full Breakfast (THB360) consisting of scrambled eggs, feta, grilled mushroom, cos, tomatoes, avocado, and grilled bacon. The vegetarian version scraps the feta and bacon and replaces them with sauteed kale and hummus for the same price.

Location: 6-7/888 Ekkamai Rd Sukumvit 63 Bangkok

Roots

Aside from importing beans from global producers, this café and micro-roastery also works with Thai farmers to support local agriculture. One of their goals is to make coffee “accessible to all” so they send their baristas to farmers in northern Thailand to see the behind-the-scenes, as well as conduct tutorials on different ways of brewing. They offer hot and brew blends at their trendy café, as well as home-ground coffee for takeaway. Their M Floor branch on Sukhumvit Road is open from 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday to Friday.

Location: M Floor, Sukhumvit Rd, Khlong Tan, Khlong Toei, Bangkok

The Coffee Club

This café serves up premium blend coffee made from arabica beans with a hint of robusta from South America, Asia, and Africa. Need an extra kick to power through the day? Fill up your belly with their all-day breakfast platters such as the Smashed Avocado With Poached Eggs and Parma Ham (THB320) and you’re good to go. For the ambience, modern décors will welcome you, with rich dark hues and textured finishes. Plus, they have Wi-Fi if you want alone time while staying on the grid.

Location: Avani Sukhumvit 1 floor Sukhumvit Rd, Phra Khanong Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok

Ink and Lion Café

This cosy café has a decent selection of pastries to pair with your cold brew. Be sure to take a snap with “Finding Lion in the City,” a black-and-white mural by graphic designer Mayha Suaysom. Ink and Lion Café is open on weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Location: 1/7 Soi Ekamai 2, Sukhumvit 63, North Prakanong, Wattana, Bangkok

Rabbito Café

For something quirky, check out Rabbito Café, where you can enjoy your beverage in the company of cute bunnies. Entrance fee is free, but you need to purchase at least THB150 worth of food or drinks. They have iced latte, iced Americano, Thai tea frappe, green tea frappe, and milkshake under THB150 each. For food, their selection includes waffles, pasta, and rice meals, with prices ranging from THB130 to THB160.

Location: Soi Sukhumvit 101/1, Sukhumvit Rd, Bangkok
