Sorn Makes History as the First Thai Resto to be Rated Three Michelin Stars

Michelin’s list of good eats for Bangkok now includes a three-Michelin-star restaurant.
The 2025 Edition of the Michelin Guide Thailand was recently unveiled in Bangkok last Nov. 28, 2024, at the Siam Kempinski Hotel, presenting a total of 462 dining venues. This guide is undoubtedly Thailand’s most historic one yet — the Southeast Asian country now has its first-ever Three Michelin Star-rated restaurant: Sorn.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The Michelin Guides, said, “With the country’s first-ever ‘Three Michelin Stars’ restaurant, 2025 marks a significant and historic year for Thailand on the international gastronomic map. What’s more, the entire selection celebrates the richness and diversity of Thai cuisine and highlights Thailand’s gastronomy as an inclusive market that embraces tradition, modernity, and new trends.”
Sorn: The 'Most Difficult Restaurant to Book' in Thailand
Word on the street says that Sorn is the hardest Thai resto to get seats to, and according to The World’s 50 Best, it’s all because of their impeccable service.
Helmed by self-taught Chef Supaksorn “Ice” Jongsiri, Sorn is a restaurant specializing in the art of Southern Thai cuisine, blending tradition with modernity, and refinement with evolution. The restaurant first appeared on the 2019 Michelin Guide Thailand, receiving its first One Michelin Star rating. This was just mere months since their opening in 2018.
In 2019, it received a Two-Michelin-Star rating and has consistently maintained this recognition for five years straight. That is until they broke it and made history as Thailand’s first restaurant to receive a Three Michelin Star rating. Not only that, Sorn is the first Thai restaurant in the world to ever receive this honor.
Sorn offers a “perfectly paced menu with an array of exhilarating flavors, all of which are in perfect harmony.” Tradition marries modernity in this restaurant, with their family-style sharing dishes paired with Ice’s one-of-a-kind innovative cuisine that transforms flavors and memories of Southern Thai cuisine into something explosive.
Upon receiving the award, Supaksorn “Ice” Jongsiri dedicated his win to his son, Namkang. “You were the guy who encouraged me to take a leap of faith. When I first held you, I wanted to be great for you. Later at school, you will learn who became the first man on the moon. Today, your daddy is the first man in Thailand to land on three Michelin stars.”
