This Bangkok Food Tech Startup Aims to Address Our Food Waste Problem

Sad truth: About one-third of food produced worldwide ends up in the garbage, while millions of people go hungry and are suffering from malnutrition. To make it worse, around 1,300 tonnes of food waste found in landfills every year contribute around 8% of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. It’s not only about taking things for granted, but also harming the environment with irresponsible choices.

Thailand is no exception. About 64% of the country’s total garbage is food waste, but the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is only able to recycle 2% because of the lack of a proper waste sorting system.

While we can criticise all the large companies about how they handle food waste, we can and should also do our part by supporting initiatives and startups that help find a solution to this ongoing problem. Enter sustainable food outlet app Oho! Thailand.

Solving the Food Waste Problem

Oho Capital is a food tech startup that aims “to solve one of the world’s most significant challenges: the global food waste problem.”

Through their app, retailers can sell surplus food and promotional items at discounted rates to consumers. This is better than not having sales at all, wasting resources, and dealing with the guilt of being part of the problem. It can also hurt your image and reputation as a brand if you don’t find a sustainable way to deal with your excess and leftover food.

As for consumers, they can enjoy the same high-quality meals from their favourite merchants at lower prices, while saving their budget and the environment.

Driving for a Cleaner World, One Dish at a Time

If you dream of a world where nothing of value goes to waste like Oho, you can start by downloading their app on the App Store or Google Play.

Scroll through the available food deals near your area and choose whether you want delivery or takeout. If you feel like going out, dine-in is also an option. Every meal purchased lets you enjoy a minimum of 25% discount, or up to 70% depending on the retailer and the food.

Don’t have a specific craving? If you’re not picky with your food, leave it to their team and order an Oho! surprise box instead. As the name implies, you’ll be in for a delicious surprise once your delivery arrives.

Retailers, on the other hand, can sign up to become a restaurant partner. There are no entry and banner fees involved, so it’s a great chance to connect with more hungry customers while increasing your profit.
