SG, HK Flag Carriers Make It to World’s Best Airlines

Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific Among World’s 10 Best Airlines in 2023

Skytrax, the airline ranking and awarding body, named the world’s best and most voted airlines this year at the 2023 World Airline Awards, with Singapore Airlines (SIA) nabbing the top spot.

The ceremony was held at Air and Space Museum at the Paris Air Show on June 20, with over 350 airline CEOs, senior management, presidents, and guests attending the event.

SIA took over Qatar Airways, which was last year’s number one carrier on the list. This year, the latter nabbed 2nd place, followed by ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates, and Japan Airlines which rounded up the top five.

“This award is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people, who worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel. That has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic as a leading international airline,” said Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, as he received the award on behalf of the carrier.

The airline also dominated the first-class category, earning “World’s Best First Class,” “World’s Best First Class Seat,” “World’s Best First Class Comfort Amenities,” as well as the “Best Airline in Asia” recognition.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways bagged various awards in the business class category, including the “World’s Best Business Class,” “World’s Best Business Class Lounge,” and “World’s Best Business Class Seat,” among others.

Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific also made it to the list at rank 8 out of over 325 airlines included in the survey. For the first time, it was also named “World’s Best Inflight Entertainment.”

Regarded as the “Oscars of the Aviation Industry,” World Airline Awards was launched in 1999 and has since been crowning the best carriers around the world based on consumer survey.
