Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster Eyewear Collab to Launch Feb. 28

Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster have announced a comprehensive genderless eyewear collaboration that drops this Feb. 28.
Margiela Creative Director John Galliano and Gentle Monster have combined their shared belief in experimental craftsmanship, incorporating the dualities of individual expression like ‘playfulness vs. elegance’ and ‘past vs. future', and are steeped in societal, cultural, and pop cultural associations. The accompanying editorial campaign features Katerina Jebb's unique photography style made fragmented with high resolution scanning.
The silhouettes are inspired by the archetypal shapes of eyewear and have been transmuted through the Paris-based fashion house’s ‘notion of unconscious glamour’, manifested in eleven acetate designs in various colourways, with featured markings of Maison Margiela’s iconic stitch logo.
The curved, oversized frames of the MM01 models play with the idea of sunglasses being appropriated into a headband or visor, with its streamlined shape evoking a touch of cyber-futurism that contrasts with its more ‘traditional’ colours.
The collaboration will be available at Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster stores, online, and at select shops. Additionally, to celebrate the launch, there will be pop-ups in seven cities around the world, with shopfronts featuring signature Gentle Monster reinterpretations of signature elements from Maison Margiela, such as exposed thread and notions evocative of the black mask.
