75 Mainland Medics Arrive to Treat COVID-19 Patients

A medical support team from mainland China has arrived in Hong Kong today to aid treating COVID-19 patients in the city, the government reported as the team crossed from Shenzhen land border.

In a welcoming gesture to the 75 medical personnel, Under Secretary for Food & Health Dr. Chui Tak-yi said,: “I think they will work and collaborate very closely with the medical teams (of) the Hospital Authority (HA).”

“The focus of their work is in providing care at the AsiaWorld-Expo (community treatment facility). I think with their support, we will be able to increase the scope and the scale of the services and provide more timely care for the patients there.”

The medical team will be assisting existing Hong Kong staff at the AsiaWorld-Expo community treatment facility where they will handle mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. The government is said to be increasing the speed of patient flow in the centre, enabling the HA to handle patients with more serious clinical conditions in public hospitals.

Secretary for Food & Health Professor Sophia Chan told the press she felt gratitude to health professionals from mainland China for supporting the fight against COVID-19. “It is a great boost for our anti-epidemic efforts,” she said.
