October Sunnier Than Average for Hong Kong Autumn

The Hong Kong Observatory via a government press release reported on Wednesday that October 2022 was sunnier than normal for average sunshine levels in Hong Kong due to stronger than usual subtropical ridge over southern China.

Bright sunshine in October appeared for 241 hours, a total of 43.2 hours above the normal rate.

Hong Kong’s mean maximum temperature of 29.5 degrees and the mean temperature of 26.2 degrees were 1.4 degrees and 0.5 degrees respectively above their normal values, making it one of the highest and eighth highest for the month. The city only received a monthly rainfall of 49.9 millimetres, which is just 41% of the usual 120.3 mm.

October’s Chung Yeung Festival was also the hottest on record, with the afternoon of Oct. 4 reaching a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees at the observatory in Kowloon.
