Hong Kong residents born in the years 1996, 1997, 1999, or 2000 must apply for a smart Hong Kong identity card (HKID) replacement before Dec. 10, according to a Nov. 25 government press release.
Those who have been unable to make an application or have missed their call-up period have been urged to call a smart identity card replacement centre to make an appointment. Smart HKID card applications will not be accepted after Feb. 11, 2023, while card collection will be maintained until Mar. 3.
For those born in 1954 or before, their specified period for identity card replacement will end on Jan. 14, 2023.
This Smart ID replacement exercise is territory wide, covering all Hong Kong residents, including both non-permanent and permanent residents. This includes those that are in Hong Kong for employment, investment purposes, or studying.
Eligible Hong Kong residents who are unable to make it in time for the deadline due to their absence in Hong Kong may apply within 30 days upon their return.
