The Education Bureau eased off social distancing measures for students who will “participate in mask-wearing activities on a half-day basis” alongside the relaxation of anti-epidemic policies imposed by the Hong Kong government, according to a press release on May 19.
These school events and activities include speech days, parents’ days, open days, and campus visits. The bureau clarified that students must remain compliant with the government’s COVID-19 regulations throughout the event.
As part of the updated arrangements, students from kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools are also allowed to engage in extracurricular activities on a half-day basis every Saturday.
The daily rapid antigen testing (RAT) for students and school staff will continue until late June, as per the recommendation of the Centre for Health Protection.
“Taking into account the implementation of relevant arrangements in schools since the resumption of face-to-face classes and the number of cases reported by schools to the centre, we have observed that the RAT at this stage can help gatekeeping in schools,” the bureau said.
The updated health prevention measures for schools can be viewed on the Education Bureau’s website.
