Enjoy 90’s Hip Hop and Free Flow Margaritas and Tacos at Studio City's Boozy Saturday Brunch

We know Hong Kong misses travelling. The beach, sun, and booze of far-flung places is a fever dream for some in our restrictive bubble, but not for others lucky to join Saturday’s (Sep. 25, 2021) Borracho Brunch, an event held at Studio City in Causeway Bay, offering throwback 90s and 2000s tunes with a free-flow of tacos, churros, guac, and margaritas.

The Borracho Brunch will be held all day at Studio City, a new fusion restaurant, hosting hip-hop and pop music from the 90s and early 2000s with free-flowing California-inspired Mexican food and cocktails.

Borracho – a slang term in Mexican or Chicano dialect - directly translates to the state of being drunk or a person who is habitually drunk.

The event is said to “offer an interactive alternative to Hong Kong’s standard mimosas and chit-chat brunch scene.”

The boozy and oily Borracho Brunch begins with traditional Mexican corn on the cob, chips and dips, followed by unlimited street tacos, quesadillas, and freshly made cinnamon and chocolate churros. To wash the oil and salt down, free-flow margaritas, beer, and wine follow the mains.

The standard menu package of two hours begins at HK$495, including chips with guac, salsa and queso, Mexican corn, unlimited tacos and quesadillas, and churros.

Free-flow drinks include beer, Mexican Champagne, Cloudy Bay wines, Angel rosé, mezcal bloody Marias and Casamigos margaritas.

The premium package is HK$750 and includes extra ceviches and pollo borrachos.

House DJ Gruv will be spinning live throwback tunes all day from the likes of Dr. Dre, TLC, Blackstreet, Jay-Z, and more of 90s California’s finest.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite for this Saturday’s event, as well as future Saturday parties held on Oct. 23, Nov. 20, and Dec. 18 this year.

Hong Kong’s most beloved and expansive Mexican chain, Cali-Max, began their new venture with the opening of Studio City on Causeway Bay’s Fashion Walk, launching last May.

The new restaurants join the spirit of Californian cuisine and traditional Mexican recipes, with a touch of class and upscale dining.

Studio City’s daily lunch and dinner menu offer a range of Mexican- South Californian-inspired grilled dishes and shared plates, including grilled seabass with ancho chilis, Ttiger Pprawns sauteed with tequila, and braised beef short ribs. Their Mexican street food selection includes crispy tostadas, grilled quesadillas, street tacos, and ceviche.

The restaurant, designed by JJ Acuna / Bespoke Studio, boasts of cozy interiors and an exterior that gives off downtown LA vibes in the Hong Kong sun.
