Hong Kong Science Museum to Unveil Large-scale Dinosaur Fossil Exhibit on July 8

The Hong Kong Science Museum will be unveiling a large-scale dinosaur exhibition, titled "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight — Dinosaur Revelation," on July 8 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (HKSAR) establishment.

The exhibit, which is free to the public, will feature eight original and iconic fossil materials from the dinosaur kingdom. The public can expect an immersive and educational experience, thanks to the exhibit's use of multimedia projection techniques and special lighting.

According to a government press release yesterday, the fossil specimens of prehistoric creatures and reconstructed skeletal models hail from museums and academic institutions in Europe and Africa, namely Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, and Morocco.

Save for the Tyrannosaurus, the seven fossil skeletons will be exhibited for the first time in Hong Kong. Exhibit highlights include the most complete Allosaurus skeleton ever found, which is over 90% complete; Willard the Triceratops, one of the largest ceratopsians ever reported; a baby sauropod in its original buried state, and more.

The exhibit is exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and sponsored by the MTR Corporation and is produced by internationally esteemed professionals. It follows "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Legends of the Giant Dinosaurs" that was unveiled in 2013.

"With a novel curatorial approach, the exhibition reveals new scientific insights in paleontology. The museum combines appealing paleontology artwork, projection mapping technology and multimedia projection to rebuild the unique amazing scenery, bringing visitors back to the prehistoric world," the release read.

"Besides offering visitors a unique visiting experience, the exhibition also enables visitors to understand the truth of the extinction of prehistoric creatures, and lessons for humans to avoid extinction."

The exhibit will be on view at the Hong Kong Science Museum from July 8 to Nov. 16. Admission is free and general admission fees to permanent exhibits will likewise be waived so the public can better enjoy all the installations.
