The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today that the Tin Shui Wai Sports Centre will begin to operate as a holding centre starting Aug. 25, as reported in a government press release.

The facility will provide space for up to 130 beds, where infected patients with mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic can receive square meals alongside basic nursing care services from Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon and Tang Tat Elderlycare for no cost. Medical support will also be provided by staff from Gleneagles Hospital.

The venue mainly targets the elderly and less abled to help alleviate the strain on hospitals and senior homes by accepting referrals from the Hospital Authority (HA) and the Department of Health. Previous temporary holding centre venues include the Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre and the Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre.

Those who have made prior bookings or reservations at the Tin Shui Wai Sports Centre can opt for a refund by filling out an application form found on the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)’s website, and submitting the completed document alongside their original booking permit to the Yuen Long District Leisure Services Office.

It has yet to be confirmed when the sporting facility can resume its original services.
