Typhoon 1 Signal Launched This Morning, T3 Expected Tonight
A Typhoon 1 signal had been issued by the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) at 8 PM last night (June 29), with the Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin locating a tropical cyclone centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong.
At 9 AM today, the tropical depression in the central part of the South China Sea about 750 kilometres south of Hong Kong, is forecasted to move north-northwest towards the direction of the western coast of Guangdong.
According to predictions, the depression will remain at over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong today, with the standby signal Typhoon 1 remaining in force before 6 PM today.
As the tropical depression continues to move closer to the coast of Guangdong, winds are expected to strengthen gradually tonight, with the HKO considering issuing a Typhoon 3 signal.
Outer rainbands stretching to the southern coast of Hong Kong Island associated with the tropical depression are already affecting the city, with the HKO advising members of the public to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
