New Cafes and Afternoon Teas to Try in Hong Kong This February 2023
February brings about a slew of emotions for those with and without a better half, whether you're busy getting butterflies in your stomach, prepping for an all-out Galentine’s night out with your besties, or planning out a self-care day to focus on yourself.
What we can’t ignore though, is our collective love – yes, love; of coffee, cafes, and afternoon teas. This February, The Beat Asia has curated our list of cafés, coffee shops and afternoon tea spots to take the edge off and refresh that social battery of yours.
South Lane
The much-loved South Land café is opening a second branch in Mid-Levels, not too far from its flagship in Shek Tong Tsui. With a strong ‘green-eating’ DNA imbued in every little detail, South Lane is a fan-favourite amongst vegetarians and carnivores in Hong Kong.
Despite boasting a near 80% vegetarian food menu, the South Lane café sets the bar for nourishing meals for people of all dietary requirements and locally sourced ingredients. Leave a couple buttons undone for the Sweet potato coconut pancake (HK$158) for a delicious breakfast, or any of their Wholesome bowls (HK$138) for your daily dose of fibre. Choose from their unconventional lattes including the Broccoli latte (HK$52) or Funk n’ beets latte (HK$52) to start your day.
Location: South Lane, G/F, 30-32 Robinson Road, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong

Coast Coffee
Coast Coffee is introducing their second location in Causeway Bay, bringing their gorgeous latte art with them! Fulfilling their mantra of “life’s a coast to coast journey”, Coast Coffee is making their way through Hong Kong, providing little pit stops across the island built specially for the weary traveller.
Sit back and get inspired with their wide selection of brews and juices, including the Peppermint Mocha (HK$48), Hazelnut Latte (HK$48), and Passion Fruit Oolong Tea (HK$45). If you’re feeling hungry, grab a breakfast Shakshuka (HK$88) for a hearty meal.

Goose Chocolate
A happy little goose marches along with a bindle under it’s wing, except, the bindle is a cocao tree branch. The exposed cocoa nut faces visitors from the window, as the goose preens with warm glee – I mean, who doesn’t love a bird themed café?
Some café connoisseurs might remember the goose mascot from it’s “Half and Half” days, a café which used to be a cosy retreat for many Hong Kong residents. Back and stronger than ever, the owner uses cocoa from Tanzania, likened to the taste of cherries, berries, and roasted nuts – sweet and sour and occasionally a little complex. Fan favourites from “Half and Half” such as the Chocolate pudding and the Orange Candied Chocolate will no doubt remain favourites at this new location.
Location: Goose Chocolate, G/F, 18 Tai Ping Shan Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Cupping Room
Bringing speciality coffee to Tuen Mun with their new location, Cupping Room in V-city is currently offering an exclusive ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ deal to celebrate the new opening. Aside from their unquestionably stellar selection of coffee and non-caffeinated drinks, the new Cupping Room venue will be offering an elevated dining experience unlike any of their other stores.
Try out their newly launched Crepe collection, Red shrimp Sakura salad, and Mango Pomelo sago during their promotion period of Feb. 6 to Feb. 19. Main stays at Cupping Room such as the Macchiato (HK$38), Latte (HK$40), Matcha Latte (HK$45), and Hojicha Latte (HK$45) are always a solid pairing.
