Asia's First Dedicated “Tiramisu Lab” Opens in Hong Kong, Selling “50 Shades of Tiramisu”

Asia’s first desserts shop producing and exclusively selling more than 30 variations of Italian-famed tiramisu dessert is set to open its first permanent location at the K11 Musea in Tsim Sham Tsui in mid-October.

Tiramisu Lab, founded by star Italian chef Ermanno Lelli, began in April 2022 as an online store where Hong Kongers could order not only the original mascarpone-filled, coffee-soaked lady fingers, and chocolate-dusted recipe, but also more than three dozen creative recipes created by Ermanno and the team.

With the tagline of selling “50 shades of Tiramisu,” Tiramisu Lab sells caramel-flavoured, coconut, rocky road, cheesecake, strawberry, Earl Gray, black sesame, durian, pistachio Misu’s, and beyond.

“Tiramisu is the most famous cake in the world,” Ermanno told The Beat Asia. “It was totally untouched, only invented in the ‘60s. Even the word was not trademarked yet, with the first tiramisu championship (Tiramisu World Cup in Treviso, Venice) starting five years ago.”

Ermanno expanded his childhood love for the dessert cake, first tasting its sugary flavours at age seven while camping with his family in north Italy, into Hong Kong’s first B2C cake delivery service.

Since opening for customers in early April, Ermanno comments that he hasn’t gone one day without orders being placed. “In the last four weeks, we have had 100% growth week on week, completing orders for customers and businesses in Hong Kong.”

“We are trying to use the same business model of Dunkin Donuts, becoming a one hit wonder. We focus on one single product with many variations,” Ermanno said. “I'm not reinventing the wheel. I'm giving the people what they already want and what they already asking for,” citing huge demand for his product in the city.

Tiramisu Lab’s permanent tiramisu bar is set to open at the K11 Musea’s Taste food court. Check out their Instagram page for announcements.
