Satisfy Your Coffee Cravings With These Vegan Friendly Cafés in Hong Kong

Gone are the days when vegans would struggle to look for food and beverage establishments that can cater to their preferences. Time has shown us that enterprises are willing to accommodate those with special dietary needs, even if this means overhauling or changing things up in the menu or offering options that are usually hard to find.

In Hong Kong, vegans will be glad to know that there are a number of cafés that can tend to their diets. Because who says those living a plant-based lifestyle can't enjoy coffee and other treats like the rest? These cafés in Hong Kong are known for being vegan friendly, so do check them out when you have the chance!

The Coffee Academics

The Coffee Academics has been around in Hong Kong since 2012 and in that short amount of time has gone on and established itself as the region's leading specialty coffee player in the city. Today, it has branches in Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Korea.

You'll love its signature espresso-based selections, such as the Manuka, a velvety latte with raw New Zealand Manua honey; the Okinawa, a cappuccino blended with dark brown sugar from Okinawa, Japan; and the Steam, an ice steamed espresso where the sugars in the coffee are emulsified for a frothy texture. Vegans have the option to request for plant-based milk in their coffee, choosing from brands like Bonsoy, Califia Almond, and Oatly for just an additional HK$6.

Sweetpea Café

Sweetpea is a 100% gluten-free dedicated café serving not just coffees and other specialty drinks but also cakes, breakfast, and brunch! Sweetpea offers your usual black coffee like espresso, Americano, and long black, but we recommend you check out its other special coffee options, such as the piccolo, cappuccino, bulletproof latte (made of coffee, coconut butter, and dairy or non-dairy milk), and rose latte (made of coffee, rose essentials, and petals), among others.

While Sweetpea offers soy and oat milk options, we recommend vegans to go for its house- made vanilla cashew milk to go with its coffees! Don't forget to also check out its signature vegan chocolate cake and vegan purple sweet potato coconut cake.

Little Cove Espresso

Little Cove Espresso in Sai Kung is an all-day breakfast and lunch café that serves specialty coffee, tea, Mediterranean-inspired food, and desserts. Little Cove Espresso has a wide range of coffees on offer, from the usual espresso, ristretto, long black, and cappuccino to cold brew, hand pour, bulletproof coffee, and a coffee tonic, among others. It also has non- coffee drinks available, such as matcha latte, turmeric latte, and chocolate beetroot latte. Vegans will love this café as they have the option to choose from different non-dairy milk, such as soy, almond, and oat!

LN Fortunate Coffee

LN Fortunate Coffee is another vegan establishment in Hong Kong. We recommend this café in Sai Ying Pun if you want something hearty to go with your cup of coffee. Choose among its coffee like the soya cappuccino, soya flat white, soya latte, espresso, and Americano, and feel free to swap your soy milk for almond milk if that's what you prefer. Meanwhile, its Fortunate Set offerings, which are served with a salad and potato wedges, will have you choosing among delicious dishes like vegan black pepper slice bread, vegan pork cutlet, and mushroom grilled vegan burger bread!

Vego Coffee

Vego Coffee in Tsim Sha Tsui is a pet-friendly vegan café that offers brunch and plant-based coffees. Vegans will be glad to choose among its vegan espresso, Americano, latte, flat white, and espresso tonic, among others. There are also non-coffee offerings like the caramel charcoal latte, matcha latte, and chocolate latte! Food options range from the mouthwatering vegan tuna and avocado homemade sourdough bread to the Peking vegan duck and vegan matcha waffles with fruit, syrup, and cream.
