Where to Find the Best Vegetarian Sushi in Hong Kong

Vegetarian Sushi? These Restaurants in Hong Kong Make It Possible

Meat eaters may scorn or laugh over the concept of vegetarian sushi, but for those living a plant-based lifestyle, it’s pretty much heaven-sent!

These restaurants in Hong Kong that serve vegetarian sushi make it possible for plant-based individuals to satisfy their sushi cravings, minus the cruelty and suffering involved in animal agriculture and slaughter.

And who knows? Non-vegetarians and non-vegans may even find themselves loving the vegetarian sushi served by these restaurants. Make sure to check them out!

POP Vegan

POP Vegan is a vegan restaurant in Central, whose dishes are also free of pungent vegetables like onions, garlics, and leeks. If you're craving for sushi, then this restaurant's vegan tuna sushi roll will satisfy you, but don't miss out on its other just-as-scrumptious plant-based options: vegan fish and chips, pear-vegan cheese-pecan-seeds salad, topped off with vegan tiramisu!

Location: 1/F, 28 Elgin Street, SOHO, Central, Hong Kong

Gaia Veggie Shop

Gaia Veggie Shop is a vegetarian restaurant along Hennessy Road in Causeway Bay that serves a wide range of options for plant-based foodies. We recommend its cucumber rolls, assorted vegetable rolls, plain egg roll (if you're lacto-ovo vegetarian), and cucumber fruit sushi. If you find these options may be too light for you, feel free to also try Gaia's assorted vegetable tempura, green tea cold noodles, sweet potato samosas.
Location: 8/F, Goldmark, 502 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Isoya Japanese Vegetarian Restaurant

Isoya is a minimalist yet cosy vegetarian restaurant in Wan Chai. Open from Monday to Saturday, Isoya offers plant-based starters, mains, sushi, and even a set menu. We recommend its avocado crunchy roll, which is priced at HK$55. For the set menu, chhoose between a Japanese home cooking lunch set for only HK$98 or a seasonal tasting menu dinner set for HKS300.

Loving Nature and Fortunate Coffee

Loving Nature is a vegetarian-vegan restaurant in Kwai Chung that offers an extensive a-la-carte menu, such as an all-day breakfast, garden salad with quinoa, and vegan egg fried rice. For its sushi, we recommend its avocado tempeh sushi with pan-friend veggie dumplings or with cold tofu with sesame dressing. Try out its caramel latte or rose latte to cap off your nutritious meal!

Location: Shop 107, 1/F, Edge, 30 Kwai Wing Road, Kwai Chung, N.T., Hong Kong

Tokio Joe

Tokio Joe in Lan Kwai Fong is a restaurant that offers a traditional Japanese dining experience. Although their menu mostly contains meat and seafood, Tokio Joe does offer some special vegetarian options for plant-based foodies not to feel left out! The price may be higher in this restaurant, but we believe it's well worth it.

Do try out Tokio Joe's veggie kaki age roll (made of veggie tempura, spicy sauce, and avocado for only HK$165), spicy vegetable tartar (vegetable tempura with spicy sauce in a lettuce wrap for HK$165), and its kamo nasu duo, comprising grilled Japanese eggplant, amai miso eggplant tempura, and house spicy sauce, for HK$190.

Location: G/F, 16 Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong
