Below, we’ve listed our top picks so you can eat and be merry this Independence Day.

Graceland: Mong Kok

Opened in October 2021, this new Kowloon restaurant is worth trying if you’re keen on some authentic Southern American cuisine. We recommend getting their Nashville Chicken Sandwich (HK$135), Chicken ‘N’ Waffles (HK$155), Country Fair Baby Corndogs (HK$75), and Old School Tater Salad (HK$20) on your visit. And before we forget to mention, they have a working vinyl jukebox — yes, it’s not only for display — and patrons are welcome to choose a music to play.

Honbo

If you want simple and straightforward American-style burgers, you shouldn’t miss this award-winning classic cheeseburger joint. Honbo bakes their own buns, hand-cuts their fries, and grinds their beef in-house daily so you’re sure you’ll be served with a #RealGoodBurger.

Choose from their Classic Burger (HK$88), Cheese Burger (HK$98), or their Honbo (HK$98), Honbo 1.5 (HK$138), and Honbo 2.0 (HK$169). If you’re in for some seafood, they also have a Soft Shell Crab Burger (HK$138), Scallop Burger (HK$168), and Fried Oyster Burger (HK$108).

Honky Tonks Tavern

Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease. Inspired by bars from the southern part of the United States, this restaurant can help solve all your guilty dining pleasures.

We recommend getting their Glazed Pork Ribs with Pomegranate and Jalapeno (HK$150) or their Hot Chicken Platter (2 pieces HK$120, 4 pieces HK$220) served with slaw, pickles, and gravy. If you’re in for some big-ass pizzas instead, try their Hyperoni, Too Cheesy, or White Trash Pizza for HK$180. You can also try their Destination Bonetown: Fuck it. Cheat Day! on Mondays to have 90 minutes of unlimited wings, cauliflower bites, and happy hour drinks for HK$350.

Lawry’s The Prime Rib

Feeling fancy? Then get yourself a roasted prime rib from this internationally renowned restaurant. Launched in 2006, Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Hong Kong is the brand’s eighth international branch. We recommend ordering their Grilled US Prime Short Ribs (HK$418), Grilled US Prime T-Bone (HK$438), Grilled Baby Pork Ribs (HK$338), or Grilled US Prime Tenderloin (HK$388) for lunch.

If you’re going with a partner, you can try their Dinner Set for Two (HK$1,688) which is a four-course meal (plus oysters!) consisting of a salad or slow-cooked abalone (starter), cream of mushroom (soup), lime sorbet, Roasted Prime Rib of Beef au jus – California Cut or Pan-friend Grouper and Atlantic Lobster Tail (entrée), and Mini Grand Marnier Soufflé (dessert).

This hole-in-the-wall café is ideal for those who want some American classic bodega-style sandwiches. Try their signature Reuben Sandwich (150g meat HK$95, 250g meat HK$155) for a pile of in-house corned beef brisket, house kraut, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and sourdough. We also suggest getting their Mean Green Wrap (small HK$90, regular HK$145) and Phat Philly (small HK$80, regular HK$140). If you want a dessert that fills you up, their PB&J French Toast (HK$90) is a great choice.
