Known as the biggest island in Hong Kong, Lantau is home to famous man-made attractions in the region including the Big Buddha, Disneyland, and Ngong Ping 360 cable cars, among others.

Discovery Bay Chinese New Year Market

Discovery Bay (popularly called as DB) is the go-to place for Hong Kongers who want a quick escape from the city’s madness as it houses beautiful mountains, amazing beaches, and waterfront restaurants. This January, the Discovery Bay Chinese New Year market will fill the DB main plaza with heaps of local vendors and artisans on Jan 30. Visitors can shop some handmade items and special souvenirs from 11 AM to 6 PM.

The goal of this event is to bring communities together in supporting the creations of local sellers and promoting ethical consumption.

Chris Maden Book Talk and Signing – ‘Price’s Price’

Chris Maden has been living in Hong Kong since the late 1980s, where he runs his own business and creates interesting pieces such as short stories, novels, and political musings.

This Jan. 15, Maden’s event will showcase his book entitled “Price’s Price” published last July 2021. The novel is about Stanley Price, who abandoned his childhood dreams to explore worldly things. The book talk and signing event is free and will start from 2 PM to 3:30 PM at the VIBE.

Go! Hong Kong Carnival 2022

The Go! Hong Kong Carnival 2022 is a fun event in Lantau Island happening this Jan. 27-30. The venue will be filled with more than 300 booths where visitors can shop gifts for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Apart from that, the festival will also entertain visitors with role-playing activities and a special section called "Travel and Fun Carnival." This instalment will take you on a trip to Taiwan featuring its cultural characteristics, handicraft products, traditional Taiwanese games, and more.

Organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Industry and Commerce, the carnival exhibition will start at 10:30 AM until 7:30 PM. For more information, visit https://mcahk.com/go/

Beach Cleanup at Lantau Island (Nim Shue Wan and Cheung Sha Lan)

Environmental organisation Plastic Free Seas is having a beach cleanup this Jan. 22 on the south coast of Lantau Island (Nim Shue Wan and Cheung Sha Lan).

All Hong Kong residents are welcome to join and volunteer for the cleanup drive to help make a positive difference for the beach and sea.

Participants may bring their own supplies, otherwise the organiser can provide washable and reusable cotton gloves, trash bags, and first aid. To get the latest updates, click here.
