Refugee Week Hong Kong 2023 is continuing this week and for the rest of June in celebration of Hong Kong’s tight-knit refugee community, with charity events, collaborative activities, and learning sessions to draw communities together in the city.
This year’s theme for Refugee Week Hong Kong is ‘Compassion’, inviting Hong Kongers to witness it in action. The event, which celebrates the strength and contributions of refugees and asylum seekers, is back in Hong Kong for the second time, and it promises to be filled with exciting activities throughout the month of June.
Lasting from Jun. 19 through 25, participants can join a community art exhibition from local refugees at Kowloon Union Church, a zine workshop at Africa Center, movie screening at The Vine, and a community celebration at PMQ.
Organised by independent projects and organisations including Grassroots Future, HKUNHCR, Justice Centre HK, Branches of Hope HK, Run Hong Kong, Kowloon Union Church, Youth Global Network HK, and Centre for Refugees, the festival will showcase the talents of the refugee and asylum seeker community in Hong Kong.
The 2022 event was the first of its kind in the city, bringing together members of the refugee and asylum seeker community with those interested in supporting, listening, and collaborating with them. This year, the festival will spotlight the refugee and asylum seeker community in Hong Kong in various ways, from the curation and execution of events to the stylistic details.
