Discover Art, Jewellery, and Wine in These Hong Kong Auctions This June 2022

Bored and looking to spend some of your extra cash? If fine paintings, rare wines, and glittering jewellery are up your alley, then these auctions this June 2022 by Phillips, Sotheby's, Christie's, and Bonhams in Hong Kong are worth checking out.



Bonhams

International auction house Bonhams, headquartered in London, England, will be holding an auction of fine Chinese paintings on June 2 in its Hong Kong, Admiralty location. The live auction will feature paintings ranging from HK$5,000 to HK$3,800,000. Some highlights include the painting "Dunhuang Musicians" by the late Chinese painter Lin Fengmian (1900-1991), estimated to cost between HK$2.8 million to HK$3.8 million, a self-composed poem in running script by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty (HK$400,000 to HK$600,000), and seasonal flowers in six hanging scrolls by Wu Changshuo (HK$350,000 to HK$550,000), among others.

Christie's

British auction house Christie's is likewise holding several online auctions in Hong Kong, two of which have already started. The Visionary's Spectacular Cellar Part II: Online launched on May 23 and will run until June 8. Up for bidding are bottles of coveted wines, such as the Château Lafite-Rothschild 1996 (HK$75,000 to HK$95,000) and Château Margaux 2015 (HK$85,000 to HK$120,00), to name a few.

On May 24, Christie's launched its Pavilion Online - Chinese Art auction, which will run until June 7. Up for bidding are pottery pieces from the Ming, Qing, Han, Liao, and Tang dynasties, among many others.

From June 28-July 7, Christie's will launch the 20th/21st Century Art Online auction, which will feature works from modern and contemporary artists like Wu Dayu, Sanyu, Nicolas Party, Yoshitomo Nara, and more.

Hong Kong auction house Phillips will be holding three auctions this June, namely Jewels and Jadeite (June 23), the 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Day Sale (June 21), and the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale (June 22).

Up for bidding are diamond earrings, diamond rings and bracelets, and art works by Liu Ye, Nicolas Party, Shara Hughes, Scott Kahn, and more.

Sotheby's

Sotheby's Burgundy Only auction


For more fine and rare wines, Sotheby's Hong Kong will be holding an online-streamed live auction on June 9 called the Burgundy Only: A Magnificent Single Owner Cellar. The latter will comprise 196 lots from a private cellar that includes desired names from Burgundy, mainly domaines like DRC, Leroy, D'auvenay, Prieure Roch, Bizot, and Liger-Belair, among others. The auction will open for online bidding on May 30. Be apprised that international shipping is unavailable for Hong Kong Wine and Spirit Sales.

Sotheby's Hong Kong will also be holding auctions on fine watches and important jewels on July 11 and July 19, respectively.
