American Bookstore Chain BORDERS to Cease Operations in Malaysia

BORDERS, the American bookstore chain operated by Berjaya Books, has announced that it will shut down its stores in Malaysia beginning Aug. 31. This follows the closure of its online stores on May 31.

The announcement from Berjaya Books’ management was put up in different branches of the bookstore nationwide, as well as on BORDERS Malaysia’s Instagram page. Patrons of the store were quick to send their thanks and best wishes to the store through the comments section.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years. We are truly grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us, and we would not have been able to come this far without you,” the post read.

Meanwhile, the bookstore promised its customers the best service until their branches' closures.

BORDERS opened its doors in Malaysia in 2005, with its first branch at the Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur. As of this writing, the bookstore has four branches in the city: Quill City Mall, Bangsar Village II, Pantai Hospital, and Gleneagles Hospital.
