Low-cost Airline Tickets Nearly Sold Out Ahead of Eid al-Fitr Holiday

Eid al-Fitr is a significant religious holiday that Muslims celebrate the world over as it marks the end of Ramadan or the month of holy fasting. This year, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, April 21.

Airline tickets, thus, have been selling like hotcakes due to the upcoming holiday. In a report by government news agency Bernama on April 14, over 80% of low-cost airline tickets have been sold out a week before Eid al-Fitr.

For airline AirAsia, the most in-demand routes were from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, Johor Bahru to Kuching, Johor Bahru to Sibu, and Kuala Lumpur to Kuching. According to AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat via the report, the airline has sold 82% of its 11,400 additional seats for April 19-22, although there are still available seats for its low-cost, fixed-price tickets, including for April 28-May 1.

The company launched in March a total of 124 special additional fixed low-cost flights between April 19-May 1 to meet flight demands for Eid al-Fitr.

Low-cost airline MYAirline Sdn Bhd has also sold 85%-90% of its tickets for all its destinations during the holiday period. As per its CEO Rayner Teo, the most in-demand destinations were Kota Bharu, Tawau, and Kota Kinabalu. While some seats remain, he added that they are being snapped up fast.

MYAirline will likewise open two additional flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu between April 19-21.
