Malaysia to Host International Show for Café Community This May 2023

Baristas, chefs, and restaurateurs, all eyes here!

The International Café & Beverage Show (ICBS) returns bigger and better this 2023! The ICBS, which is being organized by Montgomery Asia, will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from May 25-27. This year, the ICBS will collaborate with the Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association to present a one-of-a-kind exhibit.

The café and beverage show had a successful debut in 2022 and was able to establish a business-recognised platform to meet and network with brands and café communities all over the world. The first and second days of the event are reserved exclusively for guests from the trade and industry, but on the third day, the event will be open to the public.

Here’s what to expect during the three-day show:

Exhibitors

This year, it is anticipated that approximately 2,000 restaurants and cafés, in addition to almost 700 baristas, will participate in ICBS. Exhibitors may have the opportunity to reap various benefits, which include: 1) connecting with new potential clients and business partners, 2) building your brand’s name through media exposure, and 3) gaining feedback on innovations from key industry players and consumers.

The exhibitors are categorised into F&B and non-F&B. The F&B category includes suppliers of coffee and tea, general beverages, ingredients, and food items. The non-F&B, on the other hand, are manufacturers of machinery and equipment, design (furniture, interior, and uniforms), packaging, and payment solutions and consultancy firms.

Happenings

The eighth edition of Malaysia National Coffee Championship will coincide with the ICBS 2023. Local baristas will have the chance to compete in several categories, all of which are recognised as official World Coffee Events (WCE).

The winners of these three categories will go on to compete for Malaysia in the World Coffee Championships (WCC) 2024.

Gigi Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship 2023

This event aims to showcase the craft of baristas while also encouraging them to develop their skills in excellent service, presentation, and self-confidence. Last year’s champion was Rain Lee Sook Wei from KITA Coffee.

Falcon Coffees Malaysia Brewers Cup 2023

Hosted by Malaysia Brewers Cup, this competition is about exhibiting the expertise of the best baristas in the country. In 2022, Tong Win Jun of 103 Coffee Workshop was crowned champion.

Gigi Coffee Malaysia Latte Art Championship 2023

This competition will be joined by local baristas who will exhibit their technical skills in the craft of latté art. Ryan Liew Wei Jet of 103 Coffee Workshop was the champion last year.
