Malaysia’s Queen of Jazz, Sheila Majid, will pick the mic up once again for a one-evening affair next year. This is the “Sinaran” singer’s first concert in six years, titled “Sheila Majid Big Band Live in Kuala Lumpur.”
Taking place at the World Trade Centre’s Merdeka Hall on Mar. 18, 2023, she will bring along a full jazz orchestra concert. The venue has a unique value to Sheila, as this is where she held her first concert for her first album, “Warna.”
Accompanying her are 23 musicians, consisting of 13 horn players, seven band members, and three back-up singers. Music producer Jennifer Thompson will helm the production of the event, with Mac Chew doing the arrangements.
The singer added that she insisted on this being a one-night-only show to make the performance more special. "Sometimes organisers would just use the ‘sold out’ term but in fact they still have tickets. So now, when we announce tickets have sold out, it is,” she told the press as reported by Malay Mail. "And that’s why I won’t do a second night. Because I want to change the perception of people.”
"That if it’s sold out, you’re too late. You just have to wait for the next one,” Sheila added.
