'Local View Power' 2023 Calls for Proposals From Macau's Indie Filmmakers

Local View Power Proposals Macau Filmmakers

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) of Macau opened the call for proposals for "Local View Power" this 2023, inviting the region's independent local filmmakers to apply.

The "Local View Power" programme was established in 2007 in a bid to promote and bolster Macau's cinematography and support its talented filmmakers by providing them with the conditions to create films. Almost 150 proposals have been supported by the programme, which gave birth to films that have been screened in film festivals in Macau and the world over.

Last May 2022, Local View Power's 14th edition presented 11 films from indie filmmakers, centering on stories about family, social and human dramas, and community. Each film screening also had a talkback session afterwards, where the filmmakers talked about their insights and creative processes with their audience.

This year, the IC will task its panelists to select 14 works and offer up to MOP1.32 million for their production. The maximum amount a production entity can receive is around the ballpark figure of MOP280,000, depending on the category and level. Professional advice will also be given to the selected teams.

To be eligible to submit a proposal, applicants have to be legally registered local associations or holders of a Macau SAR Resident Identity Card. They must also be aged 18 or above.

Applicants may apply to three different categories, namely documentary, short-feature, and animation in three levels: advanced level, open level, and freshmen level.

Filmmakers interested in film production may download the application form here and submit it along with the required documents to the Cultural Affairs Building at Tap Siac Square on or before 5:45 PM or email the scanned documents to [email protected] on or before 11:59 PM on March 8.
