DOH Logs More Than 500 Cases of Chikungunya Virus in PH
The Philippines saw a total of 551 cases of chikungunya virus from January to November, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday, Nov. 27. The latest tally reflected a 589% surge from the same period last year.
CALABARZON recorded the highest number of cases with 154. Central Visayas came in second with 114, while Davao Region reported 104 cases.
According to the DOH, the cases were recorded from areas hard hit by Tropical Storm Paeng. No casualty has been reported since 2021.
In a public advisory, DOH urged the public to stay healthy and keep their surroundings clean to ensure safety against the disease.
Chikungunya is a viral infection that is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Common symptoms include fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, and rash.
