Free LRT-2 Rides Set for Students From Aug. 22-Nov. 5

Students can expect free rides at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) from Aug. 22 to Nov. 5, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said in a press release on Aug. 16. Over 2 million students are expected to benefit from the Libreng Sakay (Free Rides) Program.

According to LRTA Administrator Atty. Hernando T. Cabrera, the LRT-2 passes through eighty universities, colleges, and schools, thus making the program beneficial to students. Pre-COVID-19, the LRT-2 saw a weekday average ridership of around 90,000 to 100,000 passengers per day.

Students only need to show their original school ID or original registration form at the Passenger Assistance Office (PAO) to avail themselves of the free ride. From there, they will be given a non-transferable Free Ride Single Journey Ticket that is valid for only one day.

The over-two-month-long program will only be available to students in the first quarter of the academic year 2022-2023 as they welcome the resumption of face-to-face classes, added Cabrera.

After Nov. 5, the LRT-2 will revert to its 20% discount fares for students.
