LTFRB to Implement 'Temporary' PUV Fare Rollback in April

Jeepney Fare Back to P9 in April, But It’s Temporary Due to Limited Budget

The minimum fare for traditional jeepneys will be back to P9, as approved by the government, according to a report by ABS-CBN News on March 16. The fare for modern jeepneys will be set at P11, and there will be a P3-4 deduction on bus fares. The fare for UV Express is still being discussed.

The reduced fares will be implemented in April and last six months, beginning in Metro Manila before extending to nearby provinces.

Transport group Pasang Masda President Obet Martin clarified to TeleRadyo via the report that the fare discount is “only temporary.” This is due to the limited budget allotment. The minimum fare will go back up to P12 as soon as the cash is depleted,

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced yesterday that they are currently preparing its budget for the fare discount.

According to LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III, the fund for the Service Contracting Program is already available, and they are waiting to receive it from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

“I believe the budget may last only for about 6 months, half a year. So as early as now, I am requesting the DOTr to come up with additional funding para mapagkasya po namin hanggang sa katapusan ng taon ‘yung pera [so that we can budget the money until the end of the year],” Guadiz said.
