DENR: Manila Bay Dolomite Beach to Reopen on June 12

The man-made dolomite beach along Manila Baywalk will reopen to the public on June 12, in time for the celebration of the country’s 124th Independence Day, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Acting Secretary Jim Sampulna said.

“We are excited to open the dolomite beach to the public again on June 12,” he said.

The reopening was initially scheduled in May, but DENR postponed it because some infrastructures in the area have yet to be finished.

The P389 million beach project, which started in 2020 and opened to the public in September last year, is a 500-meter stretch that aims to help in flood control and prevent soil erosion.

According to DENR Undersecretary for Policy, Planning, and International Affairs Jonas Leones, the project “has withstood rains, typhoons, and floods yet remains intact.”

“This proves that the dolomite beach, thanks to the assistance of the Department of Public Works and Highways and the other agencies, is stable and will prevail,” he added.

Once the beach reopens, DENR will allow 1,500 to 3,500 people at a given time to make sure that minimum health protocols are strictly followed. Pre-registration is not required under Alert Level 1, but visitors should at least be fully vaccinated before their visit.
