Look: DOTr Facebook Post Referencing a Popular Anime Goes Viral

To remind the public that the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is still offering free rides to passengers, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) published an unusual Facebook post last week that caught the attention of anime and Japanese culture fans.

“MABILIS, LIGTAS, KOMPORTABLE, at higit sa lahat walang 'demons' sa mga tren dahil sa matagumpay na nakumpleto ang rehabilitasyon ng MRT-3,” the DOTr said along with an edited image of the MRT-3 and the characters of popular anime series, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer).

(FAST, SAFE, COMFORTABLE, and most of all no ‘demons’ inside the trains with the successful completion of the rehabilitation of the MRT-3.)

The image shows the three main characters — Kamado Tanjiro, Agatsuma Zenitsu, and Inosuke Hashibira — on the train platform and the Flame Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku inside the train. The post is referencing the 2020 animation movie “Demon Slayer The Movie: Infinite Train,” which can be streamed on Netflix PH.

As of today, the post has gained more than 6,000 comments and 48,000 shares.

Funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the train rehabilitation and upgrades were performed by MRT-3’s original contractor and maintenance provider Sumitomo Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The rehabilitation started in May 2019 and ended in December 2021.

Passengers of the MRT-3 can still enjoy their free rides until April 30.
