Peque Gallaga’s Classic Film ‘Oro, Plata, Mata’ is Now on Netflix

Director Peque Gallaga’s award-winning war film “Oro, Plata, Mata” is now streaming on Netflix. Released in 1982, this classic film follows two wealthy families in Negros as they seek refuge amid the World War II.

It is structured into three parts based on the title: the families’ luxurious and convenient life in the city (oro/gold); their return to the province because of the war while still enjoying a comfortable life (plata/silver); and finally, life in the mountains at the mercy of guerillas (mata/bad luck).

“Oro, Plata, Mata” stars the late Cherie Gil, Sandy Andolong, Liza Lorena, Joel Torre, and Kuh Ledesma. Renowned filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes did the screenplay. The film bagged a flurry of awards during the 1982 Gawad Urian, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.

The now-defunct ABS-CBN Film Restoration and Central Digital Lab digitally restored and remastered the movie in 2012.
