TasteAtlas Ranks Tortang Talong as World’s Best Egg Dish, Balut Worst

Leading food website TasteAtlas unveiled on Sunday, Aug. 7, its ranking of the world’s egg dishes, which rated tortang talong as the best and balut as the worst.


Tortang talong, a famous Filipino eggplant omelette, received a 4.7 rating. The site described it as a “versatile delicacy” that is easily adapted by mixing ground meat and vegetables accompanied by steamed rice, tomato, or banana ketchup. Iran’s kuku sabzi, a vegetarian dish made of whipped eggs combined with special ingredients, took the second spot with a 4.6 rating.


Classic Filipino staple balut only garnered a 2.7 rating, landing it a place in TasteAtlas’ worst egg dishes. Also included in the worst list are Scotland’s scotch eggs and Germany’s eierbal, which both received a 3.3 rating.


Dubbed as “a world atlas of traditional dishes,” TasteAtlas is an encyclopedia of food reviews and authentic recipes that ranks cuisines from different parts of the globe. According to TasteAtlas, the latest ranking of the world’s best egg dishes was based on the sentiments of their audience.
