Barebone Founder Carla Regin Designs Feel-Good Undergarments for Everyone
Navigating beauty standards and body positivity is tricky. In a society where women are constantly reminded of their flaws, confidence becomes a form of rebellion. And while some people choose to weaponize rampant insecurity, others see the value in fighting back. For Carla Regin, this means utilizing her background in design and perfecting an underrated yet essential tool every woman has in their boudoir.
“It’s often the society we live in that creates unrealistic beauty standards,” noted Carla, the founder and CEO of Barebone. “Once I began to feel comfortable in my own skin, I stopped being so critical of myself and started to appreciate the beauty in others as well.”
Needless to say, the ethos behind her work is a compassionate one, one that she’s been incorporating into her parenting style as well. “I hope to inspire others to see themselves as they truly are — worthy, beautiful, and powerful,” the entrepreneur shared. “[I’m teaching my girls to understand] that their worth isn’t tied to their appearance and that they should love themselves for who they are, not who others expect them to be.”
As a mother and as a woman, Carla has had to undergo her own journey into self-confidence; this had meant learning to feel comfortable in her body, and in her clothes. Thus came the birth of Barebone and its products, most of which are designed by Carla herself.
“Fashion should support your journey toward self-acceptance, not hinder it,” she said simply. “This is why our undergarments are designed to celebrate, not constrain, the body’s natural shape.”
For fashionistas and those in the know, Barebone is more than just a product, it’s also a friend. Known for their effective silicone pasties and bras — with an ever-expanding line of fashion accessories just launched and in the works — Barebone is constantly in use by fashion designers, models, and most importantly, by everyday women.
Loyal followers will know that Carla helms her brand with a strong vision — and an obvious priority of their customers. They are among the few brands that have actually rolled their prices back, and constantly maintain transparency in their efforts.
“My dedication to customer satisfaction sometimes leads me to make too many changes, which can affect sales,” Carla admitted. “It’s definitely a learning process, but staying connected to both the team and the product is crucial for our success.”
With the many hats she currently wears — mother, wife, entrepreneur, and designer to name a few — one is constantly surprised at how she manages it all. But with a solid foundation as a designer, and with the motivation to be financially independent even as a married woman, Carla has found that the work is well worth it.
“Balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship is no small feat — it’s a daily challenge where some days your children need you more, and other days your business demands your full attention,” she said. “My advice is to take it one day at a time and conquer what you can. Be kind to yourself. As long as you know you’re doing your best, you’re on the right track.”
Today, Carla’s vision of empowering women has become something of a lifestyle. The designer’s mind is constantly at work, and in fact, most active at night. “It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure — working when I should be resting — but I’ve learned to embrace it. I always keep a sketchpad nearby to capture those late-night bursts of inspiration,” she said.
But while these bursts of creativity are both fun and meaningful, Carla has realized that there are pitfalls, even when it comes to good products: copycats.
In a competitive market such as fashion, keeping integrity should be the code. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to have gotten the memo. “My advice to fellow product designers is to educate yourself about patents and intellectual property laws,” the founder said. “Protecting your designs is crucial to preserving the integrity of your work.”
As a founder, Carla has had to face thieves head-on, showing no fear when it comes to protecting her work and rightfully claiming what she and her team have worked so hard on.
