All You Need to Know About Traveling to Boracay Amid a Pandemic

Planning to go to Boracay soon? Let us warn you: Boracay is not the same beach as it was years ago. Don’t get us wrong. It still has the powder-white sand it has been known for and there’s never a shortage of warmth, hospitality, and smiles from locals for lost tourists. But as travel and tourism did a 360-degree turn on the heels of the pandemic, this resort island gem south of the Philippines did not, unfortunately, emerge unscathed. There are several requirements before you can visit Boracay as a tourist, meaning spontaneous trips may be a thing of the past—for now.

Here’s all you need to know before you book that trip to Boracay.

Requirements When Traveling to Boracay Amid a Pandemic (Digital copies of the following):

  • Proof of identification with Philippine residency (e.g. passport)
  • Negative RT-PCR test result (effective starting Jan. 9, 2022) taken 72 hours from the date of travel
  • Confirmed booking slip from Department of Tourism-accredited accommodations. Click here for the updated list.
  • Roundtrip flight booking details. As of writing, the local government unit (LGU) is only accepting air travels via Caticlan Airport. If you are from Western Visayas or are residing in Aklan, you need to upload a photo of your car plate if traveling by vehicle or the Certificate of Undertaking for Travel Details that can be found here if traveling by public transportation.

Once all the above requirements are ready, go to this page, choose Boracay, and fill out the Online Health Declaration Card (OHDC). Afterwards, attach the digital copies of your documents to their corresponding box at the bottom of the page (ID/passport, booking details, flight details, RT-PCR negative result certificate).

You will be prompted to enter CAPTCHA, then click Submit. If all fields are correct, you will be redirected to a confirmation page displaying your confirmation code for your OHDC. Save, print, or take a screenshot of this code as this will be asked at the port of entry, as well as when accessing various services within the island.

Applying for an OHDC shall be made at least 24 hours prior to your arrival. You should only submit an application once and anything more could result in errors. If you are traveling with a minor, you should also submit an OHDC on their behalf, including all required digital documents.

Keep in mind that the OHDC QC code expires 12 hours from your check-out time at your accommodation, so if you need to extend your stay, send an email to [email protected].
