Poblacion, Makati: From Craft Beer to Custom Tailoring and Zero-Waste Essentials
by: The Beat Asia
Pre-pandemic, it was common to head to Poblacion, Makati, on a weekend night to catch a gig. This neighborhood has become Makati’s little hub that hosted its food, art, and music scene, with its plethora of pubs, bars, tattoo studios, and boutique stores. As COVID-19 cases rose, however, its shops and establishments shuttered its doors one by one and the much-loved neighborhood of Poblacion was left eerily silent. But not for long.
As Metro Manila began easing its restrictions again, you can bet that Poblacion is slowly kicking things up to welcome back its slew of locals. If you’re planning a trip to Makati soon, we recommend you check out Poblacion and scout some of these places out!
Enjoy Some Craft Beer at Alamat
Did anyone say craft beer? While bars run aplenty in Poblacion, locals know that Alamat is the drinking place around here. Located on the second floor of 5666 Don Pedro Street, this pub and deli serves a curated selection of craft beers and Filipino grub set against a chill and breezy terrace, making it the perfect tambayan for you and your friends. Alamat is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 6 PM to 2 AM! Fully vaccinated individuals may dine inside, whereas non-vaccinated individuals may stay on the terrace.
Grab a Proper Slice at Crosta
If you're looking for a proper slice around Poblacion, Crosta is the place to be. Located at the Social on Ebro, Crosta is famous for its wide variety of pizzas that even vegans can take part in. For their vegan pizzas alone, vegans can choose among the Vegan Basic Bitch, Meatless Lover, Vegan Stuffed AF, and the Vegan Shroomed Out, among others. Meanwhile, non-vegans can take their pick among 18 flavors of its round and square pizzas!
Pick Up Your Zero Waste Needs at Ritual
To the early zero wasters of Makati, Ritual is pretty much a household name. While Ritual has closed its Arnaiz Makati Store during the COVID-19 pandemic, it continues to serve its zero-waste patrons with their refilling services along Fermina Street. It is also where customers pick up their orders that they have placed through Ritual's website. To get started on your zero-waste journey, look no further than Ritual and grab some refillable shampoo, liquid soaps, and even heritage foods like asin tibook, gamet seaweed, tapuey, and Maranao palapa, among many others.
Get Inked at P&P Tattoo

Suit Up at Cornell’s Tailoring
Despite the competition around, locals still frequent Cornell's Tailoring on Kalayaan Avenue because of its master tailor, Mang Cornell. They say there is nothing better than a custom-made suit, and here you can get not just suits tailored, but also barongs, polo shirts, pants, and more. And who says only men can wear their suits? If you're a woman and love your pantsuits, you best pay Mang Cornell a visit, too!
