Pride Prep: What to Bring for the Pride March This June 25

Are you planning to join the Pride March this weekend? If this is your first time, don’t fret! We’ve listed a few things you should prepare and bring to make sure that you’ll have fun at this year’s colorful festivities.

Where to Go

First, decide which you want to attend. There will be multiple Pride events happening over the weekend, such as Atin Ang Kulayaan: Makibeki Ngayon, Atin Ang Panahon! and Alab for Love Pride PH Festival.

Organized by mmpride.org, Atin Ang Kulayaan: Makibeki Ngayon, Atin Ang Panahon! The 2022 Metro Manila Pride March and Festival will take place on June 25 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Open Grounds in Pasay City. Activities will start at 10 AM followed by a Pride March (4 PM) and a Pride Evening Program (6 PM to 12 MN).

Alab for Love Pride PH Festival, on the other hand, is spearheaded by Pride PH, a national coalition of LGBTQ+ organizations in the Philippines, in partnership with Quezon City local government units (LGUs). The event will take place at QC Memorial Circle on June 25. There will be a Pride Expo, a Pride March, and a Pride Night from 10 AM to 12 MN.

What to Prepare

1. Wear clothes with breathable fabric and bring some extras.

Clothes made of cotton, polyester, or linen fabric are ideal to survive in a hot and humid weather like ours. Breathable fabric lets heat escape faster from the body, so you won’t feel as hot outside. Bringing extras will also help so you can change from your sweaty tops to a fresh one after the event.

2. Wear and bring sunscreen.

Protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays by applying sunscreen before you head to the event and reapplying after a few hours. Bring the smallest bottle so it won’t take up too much space in your bag.

3. Wear comfortable shoes (or bring extra footwear).

We ain’t stopping you from wearing the most flamboyant footwear you have, but if you truly want to enjoy the day, go for the most comfortable shoes. You can also bring an extra pair just in case.

4. Bring a tumbler and snacks.

You’ll move a lot the entire day so it’s best to keep yourself hydrated and energized. Bringing a tumbler and a few snacks also saves you from leaving your place, especially if you already got a nice spot, when the evening event starts.

5. Bring a fan, a pair of shades, and a cap or a hat.

The last two are optional and are mainly for sun protection but bringing a handheld fan (or the mini electric ones) is a must to save yourself from the heat.

6. Bring an umbrella.

It rained during the Metro Manila Pride 2019 at Marikina City, so it won’t hurt to prepare and bring an umbrella. It won’t be useless anyway because you can still use it as protection from the sun if ever it doesn’t rain. *fingers crossed*

7. Bring rubbing alcohol and extra facemasks.

Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over yet. We probably won’t get as much free hugs given the situation, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

8. Bring a power bank.

It’s an entire day of festivities. For sure, you’ll use your phone to check the map, book a ride, take pictures and videos, and post on social media. Knowing how smartphone batteries drain fast, it’s safe to bring a fully charged power bank.

9. Bring a wallet with a chain, or wear clothes with secure secret pockets.

Nobody wants to lose their belongings, but it could happen, especially when you’re having so much fun and don’t realize that you dropped something. To be safe, keep extra cash in a separate wallet you can attach to your bottom wear with a chain. You can also keep a few bills if your clothes have secret pockets.

10. Bring your Pride supplies.

Last but definitely not the least, don’t forget your pride supplies! Whether it’s a flag or a placard, it’s something you wouldn’t want to leave behind.
