Singapore’s COVID Trackers to Return Due to New Variant Concerns

Singapore’s COVID tracking systems, Trace Together and SafeEntry, might be reimplemented sooner or later due to the new Omicron subvariant that has already infected two people in the city-state, according to Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on May 9.

Ong reminded the citizens not to uninstall the app or discard their tokens for now as these apps may be required again due to another possible infection wave caused by the new Omicron subvariant B.A.2.12.1.

Since last month, most venues and establishments have been more relaxed for fully vaccinated individuals. Residents who have not been vaccinated may now enter the mall but are still not allowed to dine in.

As of writing, Singapore’s seven-day average recorded 15% of its peak with 336 infections per 100,000 individuals, showing a significant decline of nearly 20,000 in February.
