Singapore Airlines Flight SQ478 Grounded in Johannesburg Due to Bomb Threat
Passengers and crew of a Singapore Airlines flight were left stranded for several hours in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday, March 14, due to a bomb threat.
As reported by CNA, Singapore Airlines flight SQ478 was en route from the Lion City to Cape Town when the crew was alerted of the bomb threat.
“Johannesburg - Airports Company South Africa can confirm that it received a notification of an alleged bomb on-board a Singapore airline,” OR Tambo International Airport said in a public statement.
The plane swiftly landed at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, and all 58 passengers and 15 staff members were evacuated with no issues.
After a thorough screening and K9 unit check, the SAPS declared the aircraft safe to fly to Cape Town at approximately 11:59 AM, according to the airport.
“As ACSA we will continue to act swiftly to prioritise the safety of all our passengers,” the airline company said.
The plane departed Johannesburg at 12:37 PM and landed safely at Cape Town International Airport at 2:29 PM.
The airport did not provide additional details or information regarding the bomb threat due to security reasons.
