Iqbal Abdul Rahman Bags Singapore’s First Gold in SEA Games

Iqbal Abdul Rahman won Singapore’s first gold medal on pencak silat men’s category at the Hanoi Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on May 11. Iqbal defeated Thailand’s Ilyas Sadara with a score of 9.960 points versus 9.930 in favor of Iqbal.

The men’s artistic singles (Tunggal) final round took place at the Bac Tu Liem Gymnasium. After five attempts, this was Iqbal’s first SEA Games medal.

Iqbal is a world champion and four-time Asian Championships gold medalist. He was able to earn a silver medal in the men's artistic SEA Games in 2019 and a bronze in 2015.

The 2021 Southeast Asian Games began on May 12 and will end on May 23 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The multi-sport event's 31st edition was initially slated for November to December 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
