Singaporeans Plan to Stay at Home on National Day, Survey Says

Singapore will turn 57 tomorrow, Aug. 9, with festivities lined up islandwide after National Day celebrations were downsized due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While 2022 marks the first time in two years that in-person celebrations are allowed again, a recent survey revealed that a number of Singaporeans prefer to stay at home and watch the parade and fireworks display on TV or online.

According to YouGov RealTime Omnibus’ latest data, about 48% of its respondents plan to watch the parade and fireworks display on TV or online, while 46% said they’ll just stay at home. Around 30% said they’ll spend National Day gathering with friends and family.

As tickets for the National Day Parade at The Float at Marina Bay are limited, those who intend to join in-person festivities (17%) plan to watch at public viewing points or heartland locations near them. Other activities that Singaporeans plan to do are shopping (8%) and visiting local attractions or places of interest (8%).

The survey was conducted online on July 28, with 1,051 adult participants (age 18 years old and above) from nationally representative or targeted audiences in multiple markets.
