Canadian Coffeehouse Tim Hortons Will Open First Outlet in Singapore
Canadian coffee and restaurant chain Tim Hortons will be opening franchises in Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries soon, Japanese trading firm Marubeni Corporation announced in a news release on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Through the wholly owned Singapore-based subsidiary Marubeni Growth Capital Asia Pte. Ltd. (MGCA), the firm has entered into an exclusive agreement with Tim Hortons Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. to bring the internationally known coffeehouse to the city-state. Marubeni also mentioned their plans to bring the brand to Malaysia and Indonesia, but are still “subject to obtaining regulatory approvals and finalizing agreements.”
A Nikkei Asia report noted that the Japanese firm is aiming to open hundreds of Tim Hortons outlets in the three mentioned nations, with Singapore and Malaysia first in the next fiscal year starting this April, followed by Indonesia in fiscal 2024.
Founded in 1964, Tim Hortons has more than 5,600 shops in 14 countries worldwide.
