Gardens by the Bay's annual Chinese New Year celebration, "Dahlia Dreams," brings to life a breathtaking floral display in the Year of the Dragon. Visitors are welcomed by a grand centerpiece: a dragon that soars nearly 7 meters high and stretches over 15 meters, set amidst a dazzling array of more than a thousand dahlias in various shapes, sizes, and colors.
The dragon's scales, meticulously adorned with yellow and red cut and preserved flowers, create a striking visual impact. This masterpiece is complemented by four vibrant dragon lantern sets, each representing the elemental forces of metal, water, fire, and earth, adding depth and meaning to the display.
Echoing the theme of ambition and perseverance, the display also features a scene inspired by the Chinese proverb "carps leap over the dragon gate," symbolizing courage and the pursuit of greatness. Further enriching the experience is a towering dragon sculpture crafted from hardwood and recycled steel by the renowned British-born sculptor James Doran-Webb. This addition to his zodiac character series in the Flower Dome enhances the festive atmosphere with its artistic brilliance.
"Dahlia Dreams" invites visitors to immerse themselves in the splendor of Chinese New Year traditions, blending floral artistry with cultural symbolism in a celebration of renewal and aspiration.
