Bangkok is Asia-Pacific's Top Destination for International Conferences
Bangkok secured the top spot in the Asia-Pacific region for attracting international conventions, thanks to the city’s knowledge leaders' connections in international associations, according to consulting firm GainingEdge via a press release from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau on Aug. 8.
The latest "Leveraging Intellectual Capital" report from GainingEdge showed that Bangkok's knowledge leaders serve on the boards of 194 international associations, allowing the city to "attract" 123 international conferences.
Each city's ranking was determined by analysing its harnessing ratio or “how efficiently representation converts to bid wins” and the influence of knowledge leaders. The report also detailed the number of international conventions the cities hosted between 2018 and 2021. For the Asia-Pacific region, Bangkok’s harnessing ratio reached 63.4%, followed by Shanghai (51.7%), Singapore (50.8%), Taipei (45.9%), and Kuala Lumpur (44.3%).
Globally, Bangkok is in sixth place and trails behind Berlin (64.7%), Montreal (77.2%), Lisbon (81.8%), Dublin (81.9%), and Prague (95%).
